Manel Jayasena, my wife for 42 yeras died on the 24th of July, 2004 due to complications arising from chronic renal failure. Needless to say we tried to save her until the very last moment. Lots of our friends, including perhaps you, entering this web-site, contributed most generously for her medical expenses, which the family alone, could never have met. I thank you once again for your kindness towards Manel and myself.

Manel was a friend to many - some of whom she had not even seen. Whenever somebody fell ill and needed immediate specialist advice or care, it was Manel that they contacted. She knew practically all the consultants, Specialists and experts in the medical field and she never failed anyone who sought her help. She always found them a quick appointment with the Doctor concerned.

Manel was also confidante and advisor to many in distress - both men and women, even young people who found themselves in the clutch of problems that they could not solve.

That's the 'person'.

The 'Artiste' in her was even better. She strode the Stage like a 'Queen' in her many unforgetable roles - Kuveni, Grushe, Mother Courage, Gunawathie of the Loading party, Landuhamy of Tavat Udesanak and as the local Amanda in the Sinhala version of Tennessee Williams' 'Glass Menagerie'.

Manel took to the small screen with equal ease. Millions of viewers both in Sri Lanka and abroad will remember her many roles on the small screen. You will be able to see some clips of her best roles, in this web-site.

As a wife and mother, she would have only a handful of equals in our world - particularly in the world of the Performing Arts. I will say no more. You, who knew her personally, or knew her only by her projected image would hardly contest my claim that she was a fine woman - an inspiration to most other women.

She has left us but I cannot let her goodness go with her. I want to continue giving her 'goodness' to others - those in need of such goodness and hence this project of the Manel Jayasena Health Care and Educational Trust Fund.
